Más de 11 mil cubanos han solicitado asilo en México en 2024

La Comisión Mexicana de Ayuda a Refugiados (COMAR) informó que más de 11 mil cubanos han pedido asilo en México en lo que va de 2024.

Con un total de 11 052 solicitantes, los nacidos en la isla constituyen el segundo grupo más numeroso en términos de solicitud de asilo, solo superados por los hondureños, quienes encabezan la lista con 21 529 peticiones.

La COMAR no ha ofrecido detalles sobre la cantidad de solicitudes que han sido resueltas o que han recibido una respuesta favorable.

Desde 2019 hasta junio de 2024 más de 68 mil cubanos han llegado a México y solicitado asilo, buscando protección mientras esperan una cita con el CBP One en la frontera estadounidense para poder ingresar de manera legal.
 
Según el censo mexicano de 2020, casi 26 000 cubanos residen en México, lo que los convierte en la séptima comunidad extranjera más numerosa en el país. A pesar de las solicitudes de refugio, la mayoría de los migrantes cubanos tienen como objetivo final llegar a Estados Unidos, lo que sigue impulsando este flujo migratorio.

En paralelo, las cifras de migración hacia Estados Unidos también reflejan un flujo considerable de cubanos. Durante el mes de julio la Oficina de Aduanas y Protección Fronteriza (CBP) de Estados Unidos registró la entrada de 15 645 cubanos al país, de los cuales 10 509 lo hicieron a través de la frontera con México.
