CABO CRUZ, Cuba. \u2013 En el extremo sur de la provincia de Granma<\/a> se encuentra uno de los rincones m\u00e1s apartados y fascinantes de la isla de Cuba: Cabo Cruz. Este punto geogr\u00e1fico, ubicado a la entrada del Golfo de Guacanayabo, es parte del Gran Parque Nacional Desembarco del Granma, reconocido por sus impresionantes bosques, marismas y terrazas marinas. <\/p>\n

La historia de Cabo Cruz se remonta al Segundo Viaje de Crist\u00f3bal Col\u00f3n<\/a> al Nuevo Mundo, cuando el 3 de mayo de 1494, descubri\u00f3 este punto y lo bautiz\u00f3 en honor a la Fiesta de las Cruces. Durante siglos, el aislamiento de Cabo Cruz lo convirti\u00f3 en refugio de indios insumisos, negros cimarrones y personas de escasos recursos que encontraron en el mar una fuente de sustento.<\/p>\n

La navegaci\u00f3n peligrosa a lo largo de esta costa, debido a los arrecifes de coral y el aumento del tr\u00e1fico mar\u00edtimo en el siglo XIX, llev\u00f3 a las autoridades coloniales a la construcci\u00f3n del Faro Vargas<\/a> en 1859, una obra emprendida por el Cuerpo de Ingenieros Civiles de Obras P\u00fablicas y construida con la mano de obra de presos. A pesar de las dificultades, el faro fue inaugurado el 5 de mayo de 1871, convirti\u00e9ndose en un punto clave para la seguridad de la navegaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n

Con una torre de 32 metros de altura y una c\u00fapula de acero inoxidable, el faro cuenta con un lente Fresnel franc\u00e9s que proyecta su luz hasta 36 millas n\u00e1uticas. Los visitantes pueden ascender por una escalera de caracol de 155 escalones para disfrutar de vistas impresionantes del mar.<\/p>\n
