El saldo preliminar de fallecidos en Cuba a causa del huracán Oscar ascendió a siete, informaron las más altas autoridades de la isla en redes sociales.

Fue el propio presidente cubano, Miguel Díaz-Canel, quien confirmó el aumento de la lamentable cifra de víctimas, anteriormente fijada en seis. El huracán Oscar se convierte así en uno de los más mortíferos de los últimos años, pese a no estar entre los más fuertes que golpean la isla.

En la red social X (anteriormente Twitter), el mandatario puntualizó que se conoció “la pérdida de una persona más en Imías, por lo que ascienden a siete las víctimas de este fenómeno”.

Oscar llegó a las costas cubanas el domingo con categoría 1 en la escala Saffir Simpson, y luego se convirtió en tormenta tropical. El problema, indican los especialistas, es que su velocidad de traslación descendió hasta los cuatro kilómetros por hora, por lo cual demoró largas horas castigando el oriente cubano antes de abandonar la isla finalmente.

A través de X, el presidente cubano lamentó “profundamente” la pérdida de las vidas humanas y envió las “más sentidas condolencias a familiares y amigos”.

La lista de fallecidos por causa del huracán Oscar incluye a una madre cubana y a su hija menor de edad, quienes habrían fallecido durante la madrugada en la que el meteoro azotaba la región oriental con vientos de unos 130 kilómetros por hora y rachas de hasta 200, así como lluvias copiosas.

El mandatario aseguró que se destinarán los recursos necesarios para proteger a la población y para reparar los daños causados por el huracán en el menor tiempo posible. Además, pidió rapidez y organización en el traslado y en la entrega de las donaciones que se reciban para ayudar a los más necesitados.

Entretanto, en el oriente cubano, fundamentalmente en Guantánamo, todavía existen poblados y municipios enteros incomunicados, debido a las fuertes inundaciones y crecidas de ríos que causaron las lluvias en esos territorios.
